A portion of Kessler Boulevard will be temporarily closed this week to allow for planned tree removal work, according to reporting from Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG.
The City of Longview’s Parks and Urban Forestry Division has scheduled daily closures on Kessler Boulevard between Louisiana Street and 24th Avenue through Thursday. The closure will occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, during which time drivers will be directed to detour via 24th Avenue. KLOG reports that the temporary closure is intended to accommodate tree removal operations in the area.
While the City of Longview has not posted additional detail on its public notices page regarding this specific closure, its published Urban Forestry Program materials indicate that tree removals are undertaken when required for public safety or tree health concerns. These practices are carried out by certified arborists within the Parks and Urban Forestry Division, which oversees thousands of public trees citywide.
Why this matters
Kessler Boulevard is a key corridor for residents traveling around Lake Sacajawea. Even short-term closures can affect traffic flow and access to nearby neighborhoods, parks, and schools. Tree removal work, while routine, can also signal ongoing maintenance needs within the city’s aging urban canopy.
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes during the scheduled work hours and to exercise caution near work zones.
