Longview School District’s culinary arts seniors are trading textbooks for frosting bags today in the second annual “Nailed It!” cake decorating competition, held at the R.A. Long High School auditorium. The event begins at 2 p.m. and pits graduating seniors against district staff members in a spirited, timed bake-off challenge.

The lighthearted contest, inspired by the popular television concept, gives students a chance to showcase their culinary creativity while engaging with teachers and administrators outside the classroom. Admission is free, with donations accepted at the door. Proceeds from the accompanying bake sale will go toward supporting the school’s culinary arts program and future events.

The competition highlights the district’s growing emphasis on vocational education, giving students real-world experience in presentation, planning, and teamwork. Organizers say it also strengthens the bond between students and staff at a time when many seniors are preparing to step into adulthood and the next chapter of their lives.

Community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on the contestants. It’s a chance to celebrate Longview’s young talent, support local education, and enjoy some creative—and sometimes comical—culinary results.
