After securing City Council approval and state grant funding, the City of Longview has initiated a comprehensive modernization of the irrigation system at Mint Valley Golf Course. The project aims to replace the aging hydraulic system with a centralized control infrastructure to enhance efficiency and reliability.

The upgrade entails installing a Central Integrated Control System connected to approximately 250 sprinklers servicing greens, tees, and fairways. The work also includes installing fairway control valves, quick couplers, isolation valves, and extensive control wiring—with roughly 35,000 feet of buried cable and accompanying splice boxes and surge protection equipment. The new system necessitates removal of the existing hydraulic control stations, pads, and lines, along with sod and pathway restoration where trenching occurs.

This modernization effort is part of the City’s broader Capital Improvement Program, leveraging state grants to maintain and enhance public assets like Mint Valley. Council endorsement and external funding allowed the project to move forward without burdening local taxpayers.

Why this matters
Replacing the outdated irrigation infrastructure at Mint Valley not only preserves the course’s long-term viability but also demonstrates effective municipal stewardship. Through careful planning and grant utilization, Longview is investing in sustainable maintenance and enhancing recreational offerings for the community.
