The figure represents a slight decrease from the 16.47 percent turnout recorded at the same point during the 2022 midterm cycle, a period KLOG noted featured a contentious 3rd Congressional District primary.

Residents have until Tuesday, August 4, to submit ballots for a cycle that includes the 3rd Congressional District race, state legislative seats, state Supreme Court positions, and various county offices. The primary serves to narrow the field for the November general election, with the top two candidates in each race advancing regardless of party affiliation. The ballot also features contests for precinct committee officers.

Registered voters should have received a voter guide by mail, which contains information on the candidates. For those who did not receive a guide or require a replacement, the Cowlitz County Elections Office has made a digital version available on its website.

Residents who are not yet registered to vote may still do so in person. The Cowlitz County Elections Office will accept in-person registrations until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4.

Completed ballots can be returned through three methods: in person at the Elections Office, via an official drop box, or by mail. Ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked by Election Day to be counted. The Elections Office will remain open until 8 p.m. on the night of the primary to receive final submissions and registrations.
