A brush fire that spread toward Interstate 5 in Vancouver required 42 firefighters and 14 apparatus to contain on Friday afternoon. The fire, which broke out just after noon on July 31, burned through grass and brush behind a home at 5900 NE 6th Ave.

According to reporting by Clark County Today, the first engine from Clark County Fire District 6 arrived in less than five minutes. Crews from the Vancouver Fire Department and Fire District 6 encountered three simultaneous fires covering an area approximately 600 feet by 400 feet. The fire spread over a concrete wall and down toward the freeway, though traffic on Interstate 5 remained open throughout the operation.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in approximately 15 minutes. While no homes were damaged and no injuries were reported, the fire damaged a storage shed and several trees and bushes. No residents were displaced by the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s office.
