Kelso, Wash. — Local authorities recovered a pickup truck from the Cowlitz River on Saturday afternoon near Gerhart Gardens Park, but the Longview man who owns the vehicle has not yet been located.
According to the Cowlitz County Dive Team, the recovery was conducted in coordination with the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office and Carl’s Towing. The team reported that the submerged vehicle was identified as belonging to 55‑year‑old Thomas Kennedy of Longview. The original report was carried by Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG.
Family members told The Daily News that they believe Kennedy may still be alive, noting that he has previously gone extended periods without contacting relatives. They stated that their last confirmed direct communication with him occurred in early December. Relatives also referenced unconfirmed reports of possible recent sightings in the Centralia and Chehalis areas.
Authorities have not yet determined how or when the truck entered the river. No timeline or additional details about the vehicle’s condition have been released by investigators.
The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is requesting information from anyone who may have seen Kennedy or has knowledge relevant to the vehicle’s entry into the river. Community members are asked to reference case number A26‑3270 when contacting the Sheriff’s Office.
Why this matters
Unresolved missing‑person cases place strain on families, law enforcement, and the broader community. Recoveries involving the Cowlitz River frequently require significant local resources, and the absence of clear answers can prolong uncertainty for those affected. As investigators continue to work the case, community awareness and credible tips may help clarify Kennedy’s whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
