The Hockinson School District in Clark County is seeking a new board member following the resignation of Director Gordon Smith, who had served on the board since 2017. The vacancy is for the Director District No. 5 seat, which represents a specific geographic portion of the district.

According to reporting by The Columbian, Smith stepped down from the post in late July. The district has outlined a timeline to fill the position by late September, according to reporting by The Reflector. The appointee will serve until November 2027, at which point the seat will be placed on the regular school board election ballot.

To be eligible for the appointment, the district news release cited by The Reflector states that applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be a registered voter.
  • Must reside within the boundaries of Director District No. 5.
  • Must not be a current employee of the Hockinson School District.

  • Application deadline: 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
  • Application review: Week of Sept. 7.
  • Candidate interviews: 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
  • Board appointment: Monday, Sept. 28.
