An inmate at the Clark County Jail died on July 29, 2026, six days after being found unresponsive in his cell, according to reporting by Clark County Today.

Curran Ellis Fine was discovered by staff at approximately 10:14 p.m. on July 23, 2026. Corrections officers and jail medical personnel performed lifesaving measures before emergency responders arrived to transport Fine to a local hospital by ambulance. He remained hospitalized until his death on the morning of July 29.

The incident triggers a mandatory state-required investigation under RCW 72.09.770. Clark County Jail Services is required to complete an unexpected fatality review following the death of any individual in its custody.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office is tasked with determining the cause and manner of death. As of August 4, 2026, those findings have not been released and county officials stated no further information regarding the circumstances of the incident is currently available.
