With overnight temperatures expected to fall below freezing in Longview over the next several days, the Love Overwhelming Severe Weather Shelter at the McClelland Arts Center has been activated. According to a report from Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG, the shelter opened Sunday evening and is scheduled to operate overnight tonight and tomorrow, with doors opening at 6 p.m. each night. Shelter operators may extend activation if conditions continue to deteriorate.

The shelter is located at 951 Delaware Street in Longview and provides overnight refuge during periods of extreme cold. Its activation aligns with standard cold-weather protocols used by local jurisdictions, including temperature thresholds that trigger severe weather responses.

KLOG also reported that the Cowlitz County Department of Emergency Management has issued an advisory for possible snow accumulation this week. Forecasts indicate that colder temperatures may bring snow through Thursday, primarily at elevations between 500 and 1,000 feet. These conditions could increase risks on local roads and amplify the need for accessible warming spaces.

The McClelland Arts Center site has served as an established cold weather shelter in previous winters, with operations coordinated through community partners and supported by local volunteers. Severe weather shelters such as this one play an important role in safeguarding unhoused residents and others lacking adequate heat during extreme weather events.
