James Jarvie Stirling Jr., a beloved member of the Longview community and longtime figure in the local automotive industry, passed away peacefully at his home on February 4, 2026. He was 88.
Born in Pocatello, Idaho, on November 16, 1937, Stirling built a life defined by family, hard work, and a love for cars. After moving to Longview, he began his professional journey at a local Pontiac dealership before eventually becoming the sole owner of Stirling Honda, a business that became well known in the community. His enthusiasm for automobiles also led him to operate a racetrack in Pocatello for a time, reflecting both his entrepreneurial spirit and lifelong passion for motorsports.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years, Stirling’s experience in the military shaped his strong sense of discipline and integrity. Outside of his professional and service life, he was known for his quiet generosity and steadfast devotion to family.
He and his wife, Marlene Houdek Stirling, shared 45 years of marriage, dividing their retirement years between Longview and Surprise, Arizona. Whether attending local car shows or exploring new places together, the couple was known for their shared interests and love of adventure. Those close to him remember his pride in his family — including sons John and Jeffery Stirling, stepchildren Cindee and Bradlee Claycamp, sister Eunice Ricken, along with seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren — as central to his life.
Stirling was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irene Myrtle Stirling, and his son, Jason Stirling. His life remains a testament to perseverance, craftsmanship, and quiet generosity — a reflection of the values that have shaped Longview’s business community for decades.
