Three key players from the Cowlitz Black Bears have been recognized for their standout performances this summer, earning spots on the West Coast League (WCL) All-Star team. Outfielders Kona Quiggle and Devlin Granberg, along with pitcher Corbin Powers, were each selected to represent Cowlitz in the league’s All-Star Game, scheduled for July 18 at Yakima Valley Stadium in Yakima, Washington.
The All-Star selection marks a significant achievement for the Longview-based team, which competes each summer in the collegiate wood-bat league drawing players from across the country. According to the league’s All-Star roster announcement, Quiggle and Granberg were among the offensive leaders for the Black Bears this season, while Powers anchored the pitching rotation with consistent outings.
Quiggle, an outfielder from Grand Canyon University, recorded more than two dozen starts for the Bears, contributing both at the plate and on defense. Granberg, who plays collegiate ball at Dallas Baptist University, has been a steady performer and one of the team’s most reliable hitters. Powers’ selection reflects a strong showing on the mound, where he has been a core part of the rotation.
The 2017 WCL All-Star Game, hosted by the Yakima Valley Pippins, brings together top players from all 11 league teams for an annual midseason showcase. Events include a home run derby, community meet-and-greet opportunities, and a matchup featuring the league’s best talent.
For local fans, the trio’s selection stands as recognition of Cowlitz’s growing footprint in the West Coast League and the program’s ability to develop collegiate players competing at a high level of summer baseball.
