Drivers heading north on Interstate 5 through Chehalis tonight should plan for possible slowdowns as road crews close one lane for overnight maintenance work. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced that the left lane will be closed along a one‑mile stretch between mileposts 77 and 78 from 10 p.m. Tuesday night until 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to WSDOT, crews will be adjusting and replacing several concrete barriers to improve safety and roadway alignment. Signs will direct traffic through the work zone, and drivers should anticipate brief delays, especially during the early overnight hours when crews and equipment are active on site.

Though the work area is roughly 45 minutes north of Kelso‑Longview, the closure could affect south Cowlitz County drivers traveling to or from the Olympia or Seattle metropolitan areas overnight. WSDOT recommends giving yourself extra travel time and avoiding distractions while passing through the construction zone.

For updates and real‑time traffic conditions, motorists can check WSDOT’s real‑time travel map or tune in to local radio for alerts.
