A Cowlitz County jury has found Christopher Hamilton guilty of first-degree child molestation and indecent liberties, following a five-day trial in Cowlitz County Superior Court. The Cowlitz County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the crimes occurred between 2016 and 2018 in Woodland.
According to prosecutors, the jury determined that Hamilton engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 12 for purposes of sexual gratification. The court also found that the victim was legally unable to consent because they were in a physically helpless state at the time of the offenses.
Hamilton is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on March 17. First-degree child molestation is a Class A felony under Washington law, carrying a potential sentence of life imprisonment and a mandatory minimum term depending on the circumstances and offender history.
The case was prosecuted by the Cowlitz County Prosecutor’s Office and tried before a Cowlitz County Superior Court jury in Kelso. The original incident was investigated by local law enforcement in Woodland.
