The Clark County Board of Health is seeking volunteers to fill six positions on the Public Health Advisory Council, a body responsible for reviewing the department’s budget, fees, and community health priorities. According to reporting by Clark County Today, the council makes recommendations to the Board of Health regarding local health needs and the annual budget for Clark County Public Health.

The recruitment comes during a period of transition for the department. As previously reported, Public Health Director Dr. Alan Melnick is scheduled to retire on Aug. 25. Additionally, the Clark County Council recently met on July 22 to consider the 2027 environmental public health fee schedule, which covers services ranging from septic permitting to food establishment inspections.

The available positions on the advisory council include:

  • Three positions for consumers of public health services
  • One position representing a Clark County social or human services agency
  • One position for a dentist practicing in Clark County
  • One youth representative position for a member of the Clark County Youth Commission, Clark County Youth House, or a local high school or college

The youth representative will serve the remainder of an unexpired term ending Sept. 30, 2027. The other five positions carry three-year terms beginning Oct. 1, 2026, and ending Sept. 30, 2029.

The council meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, excluding December. Meetings are conducted via Zoom, though one meeting each quarter is held in person at various locations throughout the county. Members may also be asked to serve on specific committees or task forces assigned by the Board of Health.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest and a résumé to Jake Goodwin at the County Manager’s Office, PO Box 5000, Vancouver 98666-5000. Applications may also be sent via email to [email protected]. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2026.
