A trial date has been scheduled for Jacob Manecke Jr., a 19-year-old Kelso resident charged with vehicular homicide following an April crash that killed 18-year-old Elden Ragsdale. According to reporting by KLOG, Judge Thad Scudder accepted Manecke’s waiver of his speedy trial rights during a recent hearing and set the trial to begin at 1:30 p.m. on October 12.

The case involves a fatal incident on April 18 at the intersection of Maranatha and Rose Valley roads. Ragsdale, a senior at Mark Morris High School in Longview, died after becoming trapped beneath a Toyota 4Runner following a rollover crash. According to reporting by KOIN, investigators allege Manecke was speeding at the time and was being followed by an individual on an ATV who was attempting to record the vehicle’s license plate number.

Cowlitz County Sheriff’s deputies reported detecting signs of intoxication at the scene of the collision. Subsequent blood tests returned positive results for both alcohol and THC in Manecke’s system, according to KOIN. Manecke has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of vehicular homicide. The proceedings in Cowlitz County Superior Court will determine the legal outcome for the Kelso teenager in a case that has significantly impacted the local high school community.
