A portion of Daybreak Regional Park in Battle Ground closed Monday for a two-month construction window as part of a $23.5 million river restoration project. The closure, which is scheduled to last through October 15, affects the lower portion of the park to accommodate the East Fork Lewis River reconnection project.

According to reporting by KOIN, the project is designed to restore habitat and mitigate flooding and erosion along the lower river. The work includes several specific infrastructure and environmental tasks:

  • Relocating a section of the trail further from the riverbank
  • Increasing flood storage capacity
  • Installing wood structures along the bank to stabilize the shoreline
  • Planting trees and shrubs to support the local ecosystem

The project also addresses a boat launch that was significantly damaged during a flood event in December 2025. While the park is expected to reopen in mid-October, the boat launch will remain closed to the public after that date.

The closure comes as the region faces a Heat Advisory, with temperatures forecast to reach between 95 and 100 degrees, as previously reported on August 3. While the lower area is closed to all visitors, the upper portion of the park located east of Northeast Daybreak Road remains open for those seeking river access.

Clark County Public Works officials indicated that volunteer planting events at the site will continue after the park reopens, extending into the winter of 2026/2027.
